What if my place is flat?
These pieces work by showing elevation change, so somewhere with real relief gives you a piece with real presence. Somewhere genuinely flat gives you something closer to a textured tile.
However, it's not always a no — coastlines, riverbanks and gorges often have more character than people expect! If you let me know before hand you're worried it might not look good because it could be flat, send me the location before you order and I'll show you the shape of the model before you buy. I'd rather talk you out of something than have you open the box and feel let down.
Will a long route look as dramatic as a single mountain?
Not quite. Every piece is the same size, so the more ground your place covers, the harder it has to shrink to fit. A day hike spans a few kilometres, and all that elevation packs into a small footprint, think steep ridges, real depth in the hand. A multi-day hike can span a hundred kilometres. The mountains along it aren't shorter, they're just spread across twenty times the ground.
So I push the vertical exaggeration to its maximum on long routes, to keep the
ridgelines readable. That's also why Elevation Boost isn't offered on them, they're already maxed out, and there'd be nothing left to add.
If you want maximum depth, I reccomend picking a smaller area. However, if you want the whole journey, just know it'll read as a landscape rather than a mountain.
Why do lake pieces have a third terrain colour?
Water needs its own colour, and so does a route line. On a piece with a lake, that leaves the land itself short of shades and at two, terrain flattens out and stops reading as terrain.
I've decided that water pieces get a third land shade. Personally I didn't like the look of only 2 terrain colours and didn't feel comfortable charging extra for such a small detail.
Can I change my mind after ordering?
Because every piece is made to your specification, I can't offer refunds if you simply change your mind once printing has started. Message me before I start and I'll do whatever I can, nothing goes on the printer until you've confirmed the design. However, to protect my time, I offer 3 free changes of the design.
What's it made of, and how do I look after it?
PLA — A rigid bioplastic made from plant starch rather than petroleum. Tougher
than it looks, yours will sit on a shelf for years without warping.
Dust it with a soft dry brush. Don't wash it or submerge it.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes! Everything is made in Melbourne and posted from here, however postage will get calculated once finished, can be between $20 - $30 AUD.
How long until it arrives?
Everything is made to order, so nothing's sitting in a box waiting. Once we've confirmed your location and colours, can take up to 10 - 15 business days, start to finish.
Larger, more detailed pieces take longer, as some run over 40 hours of printing on their own. You'll get a realistic date when we lock in the design.
What if something's wrong with my piece?
If your piece arrives damaged, or not matching what was confirmed before printing, you're entitled to a repair, replacement or refund.
